Here's some links for you to go through and learn more about your ipods custom firmware, Rockbox.
Definitely do some additional research if needed. There's a TON of information in the Manual and on the rockbox website.
Rockbox IS already installed and formatted for a PC. If using a Mac I believe you need to reformat it.
